Hsbc Offers 56 Days Interest-Free Credit on Commercial Card

hsbc is offering small and medium-sized businesses up to 56 days of interest-free credit on its Commercial Card, a Visa card tied to business spending rather than a current account. The card starts with a £500 credit limit, then moves to a £32 annual fee per card from year two if the account stays open.

HSBC Commercial Card Costs

56 days of interest-free credit apply only when the balance is paid in full and on time. If payment is made by Direct Debit, the interest-free period falls to 38 days, which shortens the cash-flow cushion for businesses that rely on the extra time to settle supplier bills and other day-to-day expenses.

£32 per card is the fee from year two onwards, after the first year is free. HSBC also charges a 2.99% non-sterling transaction fee on overseas spending, with a minimum charge of £3, so businesses that use the card abroad face a cost that can quickly outweigh the convenience of Visa acceptance internationally.

HSBC Business Card Access

£500 is the starting credit limit, though HSBC says it can rise as the business grows and its relationship with the bank develops. The card is available to sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, as well as schools and charities with authority to borrow, giving a wider range of smaller organisations access to a separate line of credit.

22% variable is the representative APR attached to the card, and there is no rewards programme. That leaves the decision line clear for buyers: the card is built for working capital and payment flexibility, not for points collecting or premium travel-style perks.

HSBC Card Features

Zero liability for fraudulent transactions, a dedicated identity theft helpline with PrivacyGuard, and account access through the HSBC UK Business Banking app are included alongside downloadable statements. The card also supports contactless payments up to £100 and works with Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, which makes it a practical spend tool for businesses that want staff to pay quickly and keep records in one place.

HSBC also offers a Corporate Card for larger businesses with more complex needs, including centralised billing, customised reporting, individual spend controls per cardholder and integration with expense management systems. For smaller firms, the Commercial Card is the lower-complexity option; the trade-off is that its value depends heavily on whether the business can clear balances on time and avoid the foreign-exchange fee on overseas spending.
