McVitie’s launches Jaffa Cake Digestive in Sainsbury’s for £2.25
McVitie’s has launched a jaffa cake digestive in Sainsbury’s supermarkets, putting limited-edition Jaffa Cakes Digestives on shelves for £2.25 a 250g pack. The biscuit combines a Digestives wheatmeal base with orange-flavour caramel and a milk chocolate flavour coating.
For shoppers, the immediate change is simple: the new biscuit is already available in Sainsbury’s. The product also comes with a familiar twist on McVitie’s branding, pairing two long-running names in one pack.
McVitie’s and Sainsbury’s
The launch brings together two of McVitie’s products in one limited-edition biscuit. Classic Jaffa Cakes usually have a dark chocolate topping and a filling that is more jelly-like than caramel, while this version uses orange-flavour caramel instead.
That difference is the point of the product. It keeps the Jaffa flavour but shifts the texture and topping toward a Digestives-style biscuit, which gives shoppers something distinct from a standard Jaffa Cake.
Johns Snack Reviews
Food blogger @johns_snackreviews gave the biscuits 8 out of 10 and said, “They’re identical to the Digestives caramel for texture.” He also said, “They’re a chewy, stretchy Jaffa caramel,” and, “They’re not soft jelly like a Jaffa Cake.”
He added, “Definitely Jaffa flavour rather than a chocolate orange, though,” and, “Decent! Love the collab and think they should do more things like this.” The reaction around the launch has been positive enough that Rhian Jablonski called the biscuits “the number one biscuit.”
Jaffa Cakes debate
The product lands inside the long-running debate over whether Jaffa Cakes are cake or biscuit, but McVitie’s has not answered that question so much as built a new shelf item around it. The result is a limited-edition biscuit that leans on a familiar flavour profile and a supermarket launch price that keeps the entry point clear for anyone tempted to try it.
