Uber Renames ‘Green’ to ‘Electric’, Offers $4,000 for US EV Switch

Uber Technologies has announced a significant rebranding initiative. It is transitioning its “Uber Green” service to “Uber Electric.” This move aligns with its commitment to achieving zero-emission rides by 2040.

New Grant Program for Electric Vehicle Adoption

As part of this initiative, Uber is launching a $4,000 grant program named “Go Electric.” This program aims to encourage drivers to purchase new or used electric vehicles (EVs). Eligible states for this grant include:

  • California
  • New York
  • Colorado
  • Massachusetts

This financial support could be crucial for Uber to reach its environmental goals. The grant may complement existing discounts and state-level incentives. Although the federal tax credit of $7,500 for new EVs expired recently, these grants can help offset rising costs for buyers.

Transition to All-Electric Fleet

Earlier this year, Uber shifted its Uber Green service entirely to an electric model. This transition phased out hybrid vehicles, focusing exclusively on EVs. Currently, the platform boasts over 200,000 electric vehicles worldwide.

Drivers in the U.S., Canada, and Europe are adopting EVs at a rate up to five times faster than conventional motorists. Remarkably, one in four Uber riders experienced their first electric vehicle ride through the platform.

Promotional Discounts and Features

To celebrate the launch of Uber Electric, the company is offering riders a 20% discount on their next electric vehicle trip. Additionally, Uber is enhancing its battery-aware matching feature. This expansion will reach 25 countries, designed to alleviate “range anxiety” among drivers.

Range anxiety is the fear that an electric vehicle will run out of battery before reaching a charging point or completing a journey. With these new initiatives, Uber aims to bolster its position in the growing market of green mobility solutions.
