Peloton Recalls 833,000 Bikes Due to Defective Seat Posts
Peloton is initiating a recall of approximately 833,000 of its Bike Plus models due to safety concerns. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that the seat post may break and detach during use. This defect has led to three breakage reports and two injuries from falls.
Recall Details
The affected Bike Plus units were sold from January 2020 to April 2025 and manufactured in Taiwan between 2019 and 2022. Customers could purchase these bikes directly from Peloton or through various third-party retailers, including:
- Dick’s Sporting Goods
- eBay
- Amazon

To determine if your Bike Plus is part of the recall, check for the model number PL02 along with serial numbers that begin with “T”.
Replacement Process
Peloton is providing a free redesigned seat post replacement. Owners can easily install this themselves. Marcio Oliveira, Peloton’s Senior Vice President of Global Hardware Operations and Product Safety, emphasized the company’s commitment to product integrity and user safety. He stated, “We encourage affected Bike Plus users to contact us for the redesigned seat post as soon as possible.”
Past Recalls
This is not Peloton’s first recall. In 2023, the company recalled its original Bike model, affecting 2 million units. That recall involved 35 reported breakages and 13 injuries related to similar seat post issues.
Market Impact
The timing of this recall is critical. Peloton is set to announce its earnings today at 5 PM ET. This quarter’s results are particularly noteworthy following Peloton’s recent hardware update and the introduction of an AI fitness coaching feature.
