Tesla Optimus Pilot Line Projects Remarkable Annual Production Output
Tesla plans to allow drivers to text while driving in the next month or two. CEO Elon Musk announced this potential development during the Annual Shareholder Meeting. He noted that the Full Self-Driving (FSD) suite is becoming robust enough to enable this feature.
Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Progress
Currently, Tesla’s Full Self-Driving is a supervised driver-assistance system. This means that drivers must remain alert and in control. However, Musk emphasized that the company is actively working toward a fully autonomous version, aiming for a Level 5 FSD suite.
Upcoming Features and Timeline
Musk indicated that, pending favorable safety statistics, the company would permit texting while driving soon. He stated, “In the next month or two, we’re going to look at the safety statistics, but we’re going to allow you to text and drive, essentially.”
The FSD suite recently advanced to version 14, known for its improved capabilities. Currently, Tesla is operating on version 14.1.5, with plans for future upgrades. The next significant release is expected to be version 14.2.
Future of Autonomous Driving
Musk hinted that version 14.3 could allow for further autonomy, suggesting drivers may be able to “pretty much fall asleep and wake up at your destination.”
- Version 14.1.5: Currently in use
- Version 14.2: Next substantial improvement
- Version 14.3: Anticipated feature allowing greater driver autonomy
Despite a history of optimistic timelines, recent enhancements, including the Robotaxi rollout in Austin, suggest that Tesla’s goal of full autonomy may be closer to realization. Drivers are encouraged to remain patient as these innovations unfold.
