Top-Ranked Safest Hospitals in N.J. for 2025: Find Your Hospital’s Position

New Jersey hospitals continue to demonstrate their commitment to patient safety, ranking third nationally according to the latest Leapfrog Hospital Safety report card. This assessment evaluates facilities on how well they protect patients from falls, infections, and avoidable medical errors.

Overview of Hospital Safety Rankings in New Jersey

The Leapfrog Group has been providing safety ratings to hospitals since 2012, using comprehensive data and patient surveys. This year’s report revealed that New Jersey hospitals typically maintain a strong position within the top 10 nationwide.

In the latest grading cycle, five hospitals improved their ratings, while six experienced downgrades, and 56 hospitals retained their scores. Notably, Carewell Health Medical Center in East Orange received a D grade, the lowest among the facilities evaluated.

No New Jersey hospitals received an F, indicating a commitment to patient safety across the state. Among the facilities that received an A grade are:

  • Community Medical Center, Toms River
  • Hackensack University Medical Center, Hackensack

Insights from Healthcare Leaders

Adelisa Perez-Hudgins, Vice President of Quality at the Health Care Quality Institute of New Jersey, expressed pride in the transparency and safety upheld by these institutions. “We congratulate our ‘A’ hospitals and support all facilities striving for improved outcomes,” she stated.

Leah Binder, President and CEO of the Leapfrog Group, emphasized the importance of the safety scores, which are based on 30 different measures evaluated by a panel of medical safety experts. However, some hospital executives criticize the scores for potentially being outdated.
