An Idaho-based company has initiated a ground beef recall across six states due to potential E. coli contamination. This action was made public by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Saturday.

E. coli Contamination Details

The recall involves approximately 2,855 pounds of ground beef from Mountain West Food Group, located in Heyburn, Idaho. The affected products were distributed to:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Idaho
  • Montana
  • Pennsylvania
  • Washington

Product Information

The ground beef is packaged in 16-ounce vacuum-sealed units labeled “Forward Farms.” The products bear a “use or freeze by” date of January 13, 2026, and have packaging marked with “EST 2083.”

Health Implications

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) identified the contamination during routine testing. Results showed the presence of E. coli O26, a pathogenic strain that can lead to serious health issues, including diarrhea and vomiting.

As of now, no illnesses related to this recall have been reported. However, the FSIS urges anyone who may have consumed the affected products or is concerned about potential symptoms to contact their healthcare provider.

Consumer Guidance

Consumers who have purchased the recalled ground beef should:

  • Dispose of the product to ensure safety.
  • Return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
