Benaddiction Closes After 13 Years Serving Fresno Community
The Fresno community is currently bidding farewell to Bennaddiction, a cherished breakfast destination that has served locals for 13 years. On a recent Saturday morning, the restaurant was filled with loyal customers who gathered for one final meal at this beloved establishment.
Bennaddiction’s Journey in Fresno
Madelyn De La Cruz, a longtime patron, expressed her connection to the restaurant. She began visiting Bennaddiction in 2013, when owner James Caples first launched his food truck in Downtown Fresno. Over the years, the food truck evolved into a popular breakfast spot known for its signature eggs Benedict and pancakes.
In 2022, the restaurant was even featured on El-Balad’s Dine and Dish series, signifying its status as a local favorite. Caples created a community around his establishment, stating, “I’ve built a really strong community of regulars and followers who love what we do here.” This sense of belonging and community kept many customers returning.
Challenges Leading to Closure
Unfortunately, Bennaddiction faced numerous challenges in recent years. The abrupt closure of the original location in 2023, along with rising inflation and a government shutdown, significantly impacted the business’s viability. According to Caples, the financial pressures were overwhelming, and he had to stop paying himself, relying primarily on tips to survive.
- 2016 bacon prices in Fresno: $5.63 per pound
- 2026 bacon prices: $7.29 per pound
- Rise in egg prices from $2.33 to $3.49
By October 2025, Bennaddiction’s sales had decreased by 25% compared to the previous year, leaving the business nearly $800,000 in debt. Faced with these struggles, Caples announced the restaurant’s closure, stating, “It just got to a point where I’m just too tired to keep doing it.”
A Lasting Legacy
Despite the closure, Caples is ensuring that the Bennaddiction legacy continues. He plans to sell merchandise, including mugs, starting the following weekend, allowing customers to take a piece of their favorite breakfast joint home.
The last opportunity to enjoy a meal at Bennaddiction is set for Monday, January 19. As the community reflects on 13 years of memories, the impact of this local gem will surely be felt for years to come.
