Atari Hotel Project in Las Vegas Canceled

Atari’s ambitious hotel project, including a highly anticipated venue in Las Vegas, has officially been canceled. Originally announced in January 2020, the plans called for several themed hotels across the United States. However, six years later, no hotels have materialized.

Las Vegas Hotel Plans Abandoned

The Las Vegas Sun reported that a spokesperson for Atari confirmed the company explored developing a hotel in Las Vegas during 2020 and 2021. Unfortunately, these efforts did not lead to a workable deal. The last notable update regarding the Las Vegas location appeared in early 2024, when the Las Vegas Review-Journal speculated the project was not yet entirely abandoned. The company hinted at sharing more information by late 2024, but that announcement never came.

Concept of the Las Vegas Hotel

The envisioned Las Vegas Atari Hotel was to be a fusion of both classic and modern video game culture. Planned features included:

  • Approximately 400 guest rooms.
  • Prominent display of the iconic Atari logo at the entrance.
  • Location on at least 5 acres of land along the famed Las Vegas Strip.

Future Projects in Other Cities

While the Las Vegas hotel has been scrapped, there still seems to be some life left in Atari’s vision for themed hotels. Other cities included in Atari’s plans are:

  • Austin, Texas
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Denver, Colorado
  • Phoenix, Arizona
  • San Francisco, California
  • San Jose, California
  • Seattle, Washington

Among these, the concept for a hotel in Phoenix appears to be the most promising. In December 2025, Atari revealed designs for a 90,000-square-foot building near Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street. Scheduled to open by late 2026, this hotel will feature 72 rooms, a nod to the company’s founding year, 1972.

Playful Themes and Investor Appeal

The Phoenix location aims to become a “playable hotel” for gamers, as showcased in a teaser trailer on YouTube. This video serves both as an introduction to the hotel’s concept and a call for potential investors. Current renderings are prominently displayed on AtariHotels.com.

Long Wait Ahead for Atari Hotel Enthusiasts

Despite the exciting concepts, potential guests should temper their expectations. According to the website, final construction and the grand opening for the Phoenix hotel are projected for the fourth quarter of 2028. Enthusiasts may have to wait several years to experience the retro-themed hotel of their dreams.
