Texas Retailers Close Amid Winter Storm Lockdown
North Texas is facing significant retail closures due to an ongoing winter storm. Many malls and retail locations will shut down operations completely in response to severe cold temperatures and hazardous driving conditions.
Major Retail Closures in North Texas
Several notable shopping centers announced their closures. The following malls will not operate on Sunday:
- NorthPark Center (Dallas)
- Stonebriar Centre (Frisco)
- Grapevine Mills
- The Parks Mall (Arlington)
- Galleria Dallas
- The Shops at Clearfork (Fort Worth)
Additionally, over 30 Walmart locations, including Sam’s Club, will close as of 10:15 AM on Sunday. Notably, some grocery stores are also affected, with limited hours enforced at:
- H-E-B
- Kroger
- Tom Thumb
Impact on Grocery Hours
H-E-B has announced that North Texas locations, including Central Market and Joe V’s Smart Shop, will close at 5 PM on Sunday and reopen at 9 AM the following day. Aldi is also modifying hours at various stores, while Kroger will limit operating hours on Monday, from 8 AM to 8 PM.
Weather Conditions Affecting Retail
The ongoing winter storm is causing treacherous driving conditions. By early Sunday, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport recorded two inches of mixed precipitation, including sleet and snow, as of 6 AM. Malls, such as Town East Mall in Mesquite and Allen Premium Outlets, have also shut their doors.
Exceptions and Recommendations
NorthPark Center has made an exception; Eataly, the Italian market, will remain open for part of the day. Patrons are advised to check individual store hours at other retail hubs, such as Legacy West in Plano and Southlake Town Square, since hours may vary.
