Anduril Acquires Space-Tracking Firm ExoAnalytic Solutions

Anduril Industries, a prominent defense technology firm, has announced its intention to acquire ExoAnalytic Solutions, a company specializing in space tracking and surveillance. This strategic move will enhance Anduril’s capabilities in national-security space programs. Financial details surrounding the acquisition have not been disclosed.

About ExoAnalytic Solutions

ExoAnalytic Solutions is known for operating one of the largest commercial networks of telescopes worldwide. This network consists of approximately 400 ground-based optical telescopes located across California, Colorado, and Alabama. The company, which employs about 130 people, focuses on monitoring objects in orbit, generating valuable data for the U.S. government in areas such as space domain awareness and missile defense.

Key Contributions and Achievements

  • Produces billions of observations to track satellite movements.
  • Detects anomalies and monitors space debris.
  • Gained recognition in late 2021 for revealing China’s maneuver with its Shijian-21 satellite.

Anduril’s Objectives in Acquiring ExoAnalytic

This acquisition is a crucial step for Anduril as it aims to reinforce its capability to integrate space data into its defense systems. Currently, the company employs around 120 individuals in its space division; this acquisition will effectively double that workforce. Once all regulatory approvals are in place, ExoAnalytic will be integrated into Anduril’s space and engineering division.

Strategic Importance of Space Tracking

Both companies recognize the growing significance of space tracking for missile defense and military operations. ExoAnalytic’s optical observations can enhance the effectiveness of satellite sensors by identifying and tracking objects in space, as well as detecting unusual behaviors.

Future Plans and Developments

Anduril intends to incorporate ExoAnalytic’s tracking capabilities into its existing products and explore opportunities for selling space-tracking data to external customers. The company is also planning to execute three self-funded space missions to showcase its sensing, maneuvering, and data-processing technologies within the coming year.

Mission Goals

  • First mission: Partnership with Argo Space to test space domain awareness and autonomous processing.
  • Second mission: Collaborate with Impulse Space to demonstrate operations near geostationary satellites.
  • Third mission: Use small satellite buses for defending missions, including satellite tracking and missile warning.

Subramanian, senior vice president at Anduril, stated that the acquisition of ExoAnalytic Solutions is a pivotal advancement in the company’s journey to enhance national security through integrated technology.
