Airasia suspends Melbourne and Adelaide Bali routes after 18 June 2026
airasia will suspend services between Melbourne and Denpasar and between Adelaide and Denpasar, with the last flights on both routes operating on 18 June 2026. Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman said the routes are no longer viable under current operating conditions.
The airline said its teams are contacting affected customers directly and outlining the options available. Where possible, AirAsia said it will move guests to their destination through date changes or via its Kuala Lumpur hub.
15 May 2026 announcement
The decision was announced in Sydney on 15 May 2026 and applies to services operated by Indonesia AirAsia. AirAsia said the move follows the sustained increase in global jet fuel prices, which Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman linked to ongoing geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East.
He said, "This decision has been made in response to the sustained increase in global jet fuel prices caused by the ongoing geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East."
Customer changes before 18 June
For travelers on the two Australia-to-Bali routes, the practical change is a fixed end date: 18 June 2026 is the final day of operation. After that, AirAsia said it will handle impacted bookings by contacting customers and, where possible, arranging new travel dates or rerouting through Kuala Lumpur.
Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman also said, "AirAsia understands the suspension impacts long-made travel plans and we apologise for the inconvenience this decision has caused, and we want to thank our guests for their support and understanding."
The airline did not describe a broader network change beyond saying it is refocusing on routes that remain operationally viable. For passengers on these flights, the immediate step is to watch for direct contact from AirAsia and review the transfer or date-change options it says it is offering.
