Ajinomoto Foods Expands Recall of Fried Rice, Ramen, and Shu Mai for Contamination

Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc. is expanding its significant recall of frozen not ready-to-eat (NRTE) chicken products. This action follows the initial recall announced on February 19, 2026, regarding possible contamination with foreign materials, particularly glass.

Recall Overview

The expanded recall involves approximately 33,617,045 additional pounds of various ready-to-eat (RTE) and NRTE chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and shu mai dumpling products. This increases the total weight of recalled products to 36,987,575 pounds.

Details of the Products Affected

  • Products Involved: The recall includes 16 different products.
  • Production Dates: Items were produced between October 21, 2024, and February 26, 2026.
  • Brands: The affected products are sold under brand names such as Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei, and Trader Joe’s.
  • Best-By Dates: The products have best-by dates ranging from February 28, 2026, to August 19, 2027.
  • Establishment Numbers: Products bearing establishment number P-18356, P-18356B, or P-47971 are included in this recall.

Distribution and Concerns

The products were distributed to retailers across the nation, with some items also exported to Canada and Mexico. The issue was identified following multiple consumer complaints about glass found in products. An investigation indicated that the contamination likely originated from a vegetable ingredient, specifically carrots.

Fortunately, there have been no confirmed injuries associated with the consumption of these products. However, consumers who are concerned about potential injuries are advised to contact their healthcare provider.

Consumer Guidance

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) urges consumers to refrain from consuming any recalled products. Instead, these items should either be discarded or returned to the place of purchase. FSIS conducts routine checks to ensure recalling firms effectively notify their customers.
