New CR-V and Civic Hybrids Revitalize Driving with Prelude-Inspired Features

Honda has unveiled its new compact platform, which promises to enhance driving dynamics across its upcoming hybrid models. This innovative architecture is designed to be lighter and more rigid, delivering improved handling characteristics.

Lightweight and Rigid Design

The new platform will support various models, including the CR-V, Civic, HR-V, Accord, and others. Weighing 90 kilograms (198 pounds) less than its predecessor, it is engineered to provide a more engaging driving experience while improving fuel efficiency.

Advanced Technology Features

Honda’s cutting-edge Motion Management System enhances stability and steering response. It works alongside an upgraded Agile Handling Assist system, which now includes pitch control functionality. Together, these developments ensure steadier performance across different road surfaces.

Modular Construction

A key feature of this platform is its modularity, boasting over 60 percent parts commonality between models. This strategy streamlines production, reduces costs, and accelerates development processes.

Next-Generation Civic Prototype

  • A camouflaged Civic mule is currently undergoing testing on the new platform.
  • It features a bulkier front end and a boxier bumper design for functional evaluation.
  • The final production model will have an updated aesthetic, differing from the testing prototype.

Prelude-Inspired Enhancements

The upcoming hybrid powertrain will combine a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with electric motors, aiming for both improved performance and efficiency. Notably, elements from the Prelude coupe will be integrated, including the Honda S+ Shift system. This feature simulates gear changes for a more dynamic driving experience.

Super-One Prototype

The Honda Super-One prototype, recently showcased at the Japan Mobility Show, is also built on a lightweight platform. It offers a simulated seven-speed transmission, active sound control, and a “Boost” driving mode to optimize its electric powertrain. Expected to launch in Japan by 2026, the model will later expand to the UK, Europe, and other Asian markets.

Honda’s Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, Honda aims for full carbon neutrality across all operations by 2050. Additionally, the company envisions a future where traffic accidents involving its vehicles will result in zero fatalities. This commitment underscores Honda’s dedication to sustainable and safe transportation solutions.
