Pittsburgh Airport Unveils New Terminal: Enhancing Parking and Security
On Tuesday, Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) will officially open its new $1.7 billion landside terminal, enhancing the travel experience for passengers. This state-of-the-art terminal offers improved parking and security features. Approximately 25,000 travelers are expected to utilize the terminal on its opening day.
Pittsburgh Airport New Terminal Features
Getting to the New Terminal
Accessing the airport remains straightforward via I-376. However, new signage will guide drivers differently, leading them to the new terminal instead of the old one. Barricades will block off routes to the old terminal, and travelers will find updated drop-off and pick-up areas.
Drivers can also take advantage of a new “wait lot,” where they can park for free for one hour before picking up passengers.
Parking Options
Pittsburgh International Airport now provides three main parking options:
- Terminal Garage: A five-story facility with 3,300 spaces, costing $35 per day. Advanced reservations can lower the price to $30.
- Terminal Lot: An open surface lot with 2,800 spaces, charging $25 daily, with discounts available for pre-booked spots, starting at $19.
- Shuttle Lot: The most economical option, priced at $12 per day. With early bookings, costs can drop to $8. Shuttle service takes about 10 minutes to reach the new terminal.
Security Enhancements
Travelers will experience modernized security at the new terminal. A single checkpoint will house 12 lanes, equipped with advanced scanners. Passengers can keep their shoes on, laptops in bags, and liquids sealed.
A New Travel Experience
After clearing security, passengers will walk through a bridge leading to a spacious great hall, designed to evoke the feeling of entering the city through the Fort Pitt Tunnel. Other notable features include:
- Outdoor terraces for relaxation
- A new baggage system significantly shorter than the previous one
- Curated art displays throughout the terminal
The first flight from the new terminal is scheduled to depart around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, marking the beginning of an upgraded travel experience for passengers at Pittsburgh International Airport.
